NDN is seeking a PhD candidate, rising professor, or other scholar in the field of economics, finance, or public policy to author, on a contract-basis, a new study and final paper, Measuring Our Wealth, that will be released as part of the Bernard Schwartz Forums on Economic Policy. Target date for paper release is May or June 2008. This original paper will focus on how the United States measures critical aspects of the economy, including personal wealth and assets, savings and investment, intellectual property and other intangibles. The report will examine how current methodologies for measuring income and wealth are outdated, understating U.S. economic resources and our capacity to carry out long-term investments in education, research and development, infrastructure, health care, etc. that would yield significant returns in increased economic growth and prosperity. This analysis will require substantial quantitative and qualitative analysis. Advising the paper will be Dr. Robert Shapiro, Chair of NDN's Globalization Initiative. Anticipated paper length is 10-15 pages. We are offering competitive compensation, and data compiled for this project may be used for your own research.
This contract is ideal for an economics, finance, or policy expert who wishes to make a contribution to national economic policy. We are looking for someone with a strong background in quantitative analysis and U.S. micro and macroeconomics.
For those interested, please email a CV and brief writing sample to Maggie Barker, Globalization Initiative Policy Director, at mbarker@ndn.org, or call 202-384-1213.
